I Want Spicy Cheese!

I am having this ridiculous craving for spicy cheese and chips, like the cheap nachos you can get at basketball games. I'm not going to get any, I'll just try to do something makeshift like...a burrito.

I'm in a really good mood today because I had such a wonderful weekend! Hooray for snow days kicking off an amazing, fun-filled holiday (MLK day, in case you were wondering)!

On Saturday after posting, I bummed around the house trying to get things done. I didn't have a hangover which is pretty typical for me after a night of heavy drinking, but I still didn't get much work finished. I was getting restless and my unproductivity was spiking, so I decided to go for a walk in the late afternoon. I love how the snow insulates everything and allows for walks in a city to be so peaceful. I had a really nice hour by myself and came home to find Adrian in the kitchen making dinner. Collectively, we decided to go have a beer on the Ave after chatting about respective plans for the night. I conveniently remembered that we had an assortment of beer and wine in our fridge, so I requested that we drink some of those beverages before leaving in which case we wouldn't end up spending a lot of money at the bar. WELL, a few glasses of wine later turned into a bottle and a half polished off by two lightweight girls...and then we were drunk by 8pm and still getting ready for a night out on the Ave. Bonnie and Alex came home to find us giggling and overly drunk, but with their help, we finally managed to get ourselves out of the apartment and onto the 9pm bus (but not before Adrian broke one of my new wine glasses - oh well, all in a day's work...or all in a night of pure unadulterated fun). We made our way to the Ave and checked out 4 bars before settling on the one with a live band and a cover charge of $3. (Most of you know how I feel about cover charges, but I was willing to pay up because Adrian was talking up this band like it was frickin Coldplay or something.) Well, this $3 ended up being the best spent all night besides the $4 spent on 2 more beers each for the drunkies in the corner. The Senate (the name of the band) was amazing with solid acoustic rock, incredible vocal blends, and hot boys! They say it's "face-melting" music, but I just call it a helluva good time. I happened to briefly, but meaningfully, hold hands with the lead singer of the band while I was trying to pass him. I remember there to be a definite squeeze involved. Adrian also managed to survive the phone call I made to a cute boy whom she met on the street over a month ago. He asked me if I was single as well, I cheerfully said yes, and we continued to plan a double date that may take place this coming weekend. Should be an interesting time for all.

So, the night was properly fantastic and what made it even more so was when I happened to, let's say, "convince with my eyes" (we all know how much I s t a r e when I'm intoxicated) a rather good-looking fellow named Andy to talk to us. He was appropriately nice (and lived in Chicago - no wonder he made his way over...that would be socially uncalled for if he were a true Seattlite) and we chatted with him for awhile. After exchanging numbers, we caught the bus home and warmed up some much-needed food to stave off hunger pangs and hangovers. We debriefed about our wild night until about 3am, then passed out (again, for me) in our respective beds. In conclusion, what was supposed to be an innocent beer on the Ave turned into a crazy night of pre-partying (almost unheard of in my vocab and in our house), listening to stellar music, and meeting some good-looking Seattle men.

Sunday morning, I awoke with only the slightest twinge of a headache along with a light and cheery demeanor. Again, I managed to get no work done before I decided that a walk around the neighborhood was in order for my daily dose of fresh air. Considering what followed, this may have been the worst idea of the weekend. I convinced Adrian to go with me and we both initially thought this would be a 30 minute walk, tops. We were gravely wrong, my friends. We started out walking north on 40th Ave which is grid-like until approaching the dead end. We turned right and then left on a road (in the middle of what appeared to be a forest) that wound down and down and down. Consequentially, we slid down most of the way while I kept saying, "I really want to see where this leads! Let's keep going!" Well, we did. We did keep going and we came to another road and we had no idea where we were. (Of course.) Luckily, the both of us have a pretty decent sense of direction, so we took another right and went up another hill and continued on our way into the unknown.

We came to a place with gigantic houses and a beautiful view. (Unfortunately, Adrian convinced me NOT to take my camera along, otherwise you would have evidence of our interesting journey.) It was really great, but we couldn't enjoy it in all of its glory because we still didn't know where we were (and we were sure we weren't where we wanted to be). We started up the hill again (this was a hell of a hill) even though there were a few signs that warned "Not a Through Street" -- hey, we were risk-takers! Of course, just our luck, the streets DID NOT go through and we ended up walking for 20 extra minutes than we had to.

By this time, we were pretty irritated and we wanted to get back home. We walked mostly in silence and only talked when we wanted to complain about the cold or the hills or the fact that I sucked for suggesting a walk in the first place. I had an inkling that I knew where we'd end up and, almost as if it was planned, we came out in the exact place I was thinking. (And we knew where we were!) The only unfortunate thing was that we were at the bottom of the hill (to get out of the neighborhood and back to our own, we had to go down to get back up) -- so we had to haul ass all the way up the notorious 70th Street hill (remember, Mom, it's the one you could barely get up) back to Wedgwood. Good thing we were almost home because 1) it was getting dark and 2) we had been walking for 2 hours! So much for a brief 30 minute walk!

After getting home, we were about to have dinner when I got an unexpected call from Andy, the charming bar boy. The night before, he had invited us to a group pizza/beer event in the U-District and we had completely forgotten. At the last minute, we decided to make an appearance, so we rushed to get ready and made our way to the Ave for a night with the guys (and some girls). It was fun to have new friends and I was impressed that Andy had followed through on the night before. We had a good time with fun people and enjoyable conversations. Prior to pizza, I had planned to meet Aaron at a coffee shop to finish out the night with some studying, so Adrian and I walked up the Ave to meet him and debriefed about dinner. Aaron and I hung out until midnight and then I went home, exhausted and barely able to keep my eyes open on the bus.

Today, I woke up late, had some oatmeal, and finally (FINALLY) completed my blasted HIPAA training online. (What a tedious nightmare.) I've been on my computer in bed the entire day. It's been great! This week should be a busy one with my first parent interviews (for which I should be preparing at the moment), an SPSA meeting, classes, a possible weekend visit to the Hothouse, research interventions, research participations, another meeting, work, and tutoring! Throw in some mainstream television shows (Beauty and the Geek and Grey's) and I'm fully booked up! :)

One last thing before a mini-showcase of pictures: In lieu of these past few marvelous nights, I have an announcement to make that will sufficiently knock your socks off. Ladies and gentlemen, I have successfully penetrated the Seattle social scene!!!!!! I officially have Seattlites as friends!!!!!! This may be the reason for my undeniably good mood. Somehow, I've figured out the culture and I don't even know how. (Adrian said it's all in the eye contact. I've been trying it and it's WORKING.)

See pictures below for proof of my landmark weekend:

A curl and the trees on my Saturday walk around the neighborhood.

I was really proud of this picture when I saw it for the first time on my computer. It looks tres professional! Click on it for a bigger image and notice the exquisite detail. My camera rocks!

Adrian, looking hotter than ever, poses for a picture in a very French manner.

Me, posing in stereotypically clueless fashion. Pay special attention to my get-up...amazing makeup (done while drunk), perfect hair, gorgeous necklace, and a shirt that makes my boobs look incredibly huge. Oh, wait. My boobs got incredibly huger? (Yes. They did. And I'm not particularly happy about this. Hello new, more supportive bras; goodbye built-in bra tank tops.)

Awwww, aren't we cute? You can even see the band performing behind us. Special thanks to the guy who offered to take this picture without us even having to ask.

Well, there's a peek into my ridiculously fun weekend. It was such a good time! :) May put me in a good mood...until next week sometime. Well, at least until tomorrow when I have to go back to class. Boo hiss.

Celine - thanks for posting a comment, I've been meaning to write to you and I've been wondering how you are! I'll be in touch soon! :)

I hope everyone is taking care of themselves!
