Just FYI, I have only 3 classes, 2 of which are practicum classes, which means we will actually have REAL cases with REAL clients -
1) Counseling ... which carries on through Spring 2007 quarter into June. We have 2 counseling clients in this class, one that will come to the UW (on Mondays) and one that we have to see at their school one hour per week. We are required to have 15 sessions with each child, plus a parent and teacher interview. In addition to those counseling times (and a 3 hour class), we also have to meet with our supervisor for 30 minutes per week, write weekly reports, AND read at least 100 pages per week. JUST FOR THAT CLASS. Also, a full report (about 20 pages, single spaced) is due for each client at the end of the Spring Quarter.
2) Assessment ... for which we have 2 different clients, both of whom will come to the clinic for testing. In these sessions, we don't do counseling or intervention, we just assess for IQ, learning disabilities, etc. There is no outside traveling to schools except for direct observation and teacher interviews. We must also do a parent and a student interview besides the complete assessment measures. A full report (25 pages, single spaced) is due at the end of the Winter Quarter for each client. Also, we have to read about 50-100 pages for each class period.
3) Consultation ... is the only class that is not practicum. In this class, we discuss best practices for consultation along with reading about 25-50 pages per week and writing a report. We also have to go to a school meeting, record it, then transcribe it and write on it our thoughts and opinions. Should be interesting and this seems to be the most flexible class.
All in all, I am taking 13 credits, but it feels more like 20 credits to me.
SO, this is what my life will look like for the next 11 weeks. AHHHHHH.
